Concord is the Cabarrus County seat and the second most populous city in the Charlotte metro area, with 105,240 residents in the 2020 census. It was settled around 1750 and incorporated in 1806, and it became a textile center in the late 1800s. Since the 1970s it has expanded westward toward Charlotte through annexations.
That range of ages shows up in the housing. Older homes near the center tend to have older plumbing materials, such as galvanized supply lines and cast-iron drains, while the newer subdivisions on the Charlotte side are more likely to have PEX or copper and water heaters approaching their replacement years.

Leaks
$150–$600
Accessible leaks. Hidden, in-wall or under-slab leaks and water damage cost more.
Drains
$150–$500
Sink, tub and toilet clogs. Main-line clearing runs higher and hydro-jetting more still.
Water heaters
$900–$3,000
Installed tank replacement. Repairs cost less and tankless units cost more.
Pipe repair
$200–$1,200
Repairing or replacing a section of pipe. A whole-house repipe is a much bigger job.
Sewer work
$1,400–$5,300
Typical line repair or replacement. A camera inspection or simple clog costs far less.
Fixture install & repair
$150–$600
Installation labor and basic parts for one fixture. The fixture itself is extra.
Water treatment
$800–$3,000
A water softener, installed. Whole-house filtration and reverse osmosis cost more.
The City of Concord runs two water treatment plants. Coddle Creek draws from Lake Don T. Howell, and Hillgrove draws from Lake Concord, Lake Fisher and Lake Don T. Howell. The city also buys water from Kannapolis and Albemarle. Concord supplies treated water to Harrisburg's district and is the retail water and sewer provider in the Midland area. Wastewater is treated through WSACC.
Cabarrus County's Development Services handles permits, fees and inspections for Concord, Harrisburg, Kannapolis and Mount Pleasant. The county's 2025 fee guide lists a like-for-like water heater replacement (same size, location and fuel, and no switch between tank and tankless) as not needing a permit, while changes do, with a $15 plumbing permit fee for a water heater.
Three surface-water reservoirs: Lake Don T. Howell, Lake Concord and Lake Fisher, treated at the city's Coddle Creek and Hillgrove plants. The city also buys water from Kannapolis and Albemarle.
