How we rank pros and estimate prices

Where the businesses come from
Business names, ratings, review counts, phone numbers and websites come live from Google Maps each time you load a page. We don't copy or store that data, which is also what Google's terms require. Because it's live, you always see the current rating, and a business can only appear if Google lists it as a plumber near the area you're viewing.
If a business listing is wrong, the fix is on the business's own Google Business Profile. If a business would like to be left out of our pages, it can tell us and we will remove it.
How we rank
The default sort is "Best match." It uses the Google rating, weighted by the number of reviews, so a 5.0 from three reviews doesn't outrank a 4.8 from hundreds. The score is (rating × reviews + 4.2 × 30) ÷ (reviews + 30): it treats every business as if it started with 30 reviews at a typical rating, so a handful of perfect reviews can't beat a long track record, while a large number of reviews speaks for itself.
You can also sort by distance, rating alone, or the number of reviews, and filter by minimum rating, minimum reviews and distance. We don't reorder results for anyone, and no business can pay to move up.
A high rating doesn't guarantee a good experience, and ratings can be gamed. Treat them as one input. Check the license, ask for a written estimate, and read recent reviews on Google.
Where the price ranges come from
For each service, we compare several published cost guides, such as Fixr, Inch Calculator, This Old House and Angi, and we weight Charlotte-area figures where a source publishes them. We show the middle of the range, not the cheapest or the most expensive job anyone has reported, and we explain what pushes a price up in the cost guides.
Some of the sources we use update their figures less often than others, and a few of their pages date from 2023. Where we combine figures or adjust a range, we say so on the page. We review them regularly and update the date on each page when we do.
Every range is an estimate for budgeting. It's not a quote and not a guarantee. Prices depend on the job, the materials, access to the work and the contractor.
Independence and money
FixQuoted doesn't currently take payment from businesses or from advertisers. If that changes, any paid placement will be labeled as such, and it will be kept separate from our ratings and rankings.
